Morning Prayer

In many times and places, daybreak has been a time of prayer. Jews prayed in their synagogues at sunrise as well as at other times each day. This Jewish pattern of prayer formed the basis of the Christian monastic Daily Office, with its prayers or "hours" at seven times each day.  The Episcopal Church follows the example of these early monastic communities in providing for prayer throughout the day through "The Daily Office". Our prayer book contains four prayer services for use throughout the day:  Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline.

The brief service of Morning Prayer (~20 minutes) is the perfect way to begin the day. We recite psalms, read Scripture, and offer both collects (prayers) and private intercessions.  Morning Prayer may be led by either a member of the clergy or a layperson.
