Emergency Services: Margaretville Hospital

Margaretville Hospital hosts a 24-hour Emergency Department led by a team of expert medical professionals, including a staff of nurses who are all certified in trauma care, advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, or pediatric advanced life support. We use the latest medical technologies to monitor vital signs, heart rates and respiration.

The Emergency Department’s Physician Assistants and Family Nurse Practitioner are nationally certified by their respective professional organizations.

EMS – Emergency Medical Services

Margaretville Hospital Emergency Medical Services department provides Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support to individuals within a 15-mile radius of the hospital. Our trained ambulance squad is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and works closely with local fire departments and other agencies to provide prompt out-of-hospital care and transport to our Emergency Department during medical emergencies.

Basic Life Support is a level of medical care which provides initial emergency care to patients with life-threatening injuries and illness until they can receive care at a hospital. It focuses on maintaining a clear airway for patients to properly breathe, as well as maintaining adequate circulation and blood supply through possible use of CPR and breathing control.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) is a higher level of emergency medical care that extends beyond the level of care that Basic Life Support can provide. ALS is typically used when a patient is experiencing a cardiac or diabetic emergency, poisoning, potential stroke or other emergency. Emergency measures that can be taken include cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, IV initiation, administration of medications and advanced airway management.
