Vehicle manufacturers use Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology which requires Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to remove harmful emissions from diesel engines, breaking down gases into nitrogen and water.
This means that most new diesel vehicles are being fitted with SCR and DEF tanks that must be regularly refilled.
