Crowns are necessary when a tooth has lost a significant amount of tooth structure and cannot be restored with a filling material. Crowns cover the remaining tooth and restore its function, strength, and esthetics. Several crown material options are available, including non-metal crowns. Your dentist will discuss these options on an individual basis depending on the area of the mouth that needs a crown. Bridges can be utilized when a tooth is missing but the teeth around it are not. The bridge looks like the patient’s natural teeth and is permanently cemented into place.
