When you check in for a Southwest flight, you're assigned to one of three boarding groups (A, B, or C) and given a numerical position (1-60+), both of which will be displayed on your boarding pass. This system determines your spot in the boarding line, organized at the gate with numbered posts. You'll board in numerical order with your group. Southwest has an open seating arrangement, so once onboard, you can choose any open seat and store your carry-on luggage in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
